The Sixth China-Germany Environmental Forum Held in Beijing
From October 30 to 31, the 6th China-Germany Environmental Forum was held in Beijing with the theme of "Facing 2030: Accelerating Innovation and Transformation and Realizing Green Development". Zhao Yingmin, deputy minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Swinia Schulze, German Minister of the Environment, attended the forum and delivered opening speeches.
The Chinese side stated that the holding of the 6th China-Germany Environmental Forum was an important activity identified in the implementation of the fifth round of the joint statement of the Chinese and German government consultations held in Berlin in July 2018. It is hoped that this forum will be used as an opportunity to further explore new mechanisms, new fields and new models, deepen cooperation, learn from each other, and play an active role in promoting the ecological protection and sustainable development of the two countries and even the world.
The German side stated that China-Germany environmental cooperation has made great progress. The two countries are pioneers in global environmental governance and should continue to work together to address global environmental issues such as climate change.
The forum was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety, and the German Economic Asia-Pacific Commission. More than 200 people from government departments, academic groups and companies from China and Germany participated in the forum.
Participants of the two sides conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on three major topics, namely, “Accelerating Innovation and Action, Addressing Climate Change”, “Global Biodiversity Framework and Implementation after 2020” and “Circular Economy and Sustainable Chemical Management”. And organized more than 40 companies in China and Germany to carry out the docking of environmental protection technology needs.
Sino-German environmental cooperation started since 1994 and has a long history and remarkable results. At present, the environmental cooperation between the two countries has extended from personnel exchanges and information exchanges to substantive cooperation in various fields such as policies and regulations, management systems, environmental protection industries, and pollution prevention, which have played a positive role in promoting friendly relations and business exchanges between the two countries.
